Current Situation
Beginning November 1, 2025, approximately 7,300 households across Boulder County are expecting funds that will not arrive as scheduled even though they rely on these funds. Additionally, 1,700 federal employees locally are going without pay. Furthermore, reports indicate that as many as 73,000 workers nationwide in the private sector may be laid off this month. This is on top of our local federal workers who were laid off or fired during the DOGE rampage.

Our Response
In November, we are having our annual EFAA food drive where we raise funds and donations to support Emergency Family Assistance Association which was formed here in Boulder in 1918. We're doing that this year as well and have already donated hundreds of pounds of food and cash to help others.

But we felt that wasn't enough, so through the end of the year, we're extending our table. We are serving a free breakfast Sunday mornings at 9 and offering lunch after the service at 11:30. Grab some staples from our sharing shelves. No requirements, no obligations. Stay for the service or don't. We just want to make sure our neighbors have enough.

if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday.
How to Help
The Human Services Department is identifying the most vulnerable residents and connecting them with resources.
The following organizations are asking for the public to help:
1. Donate Food and Essential Items.
We are collecting for EFAA this month and you can drop off donations directly to local food banks and resource centers. We also have our Sharing Table here in the church. Requested items include:
-
Canned Proteins: chicken, tuna, pinto, white, or black beans
-
Grains: rice, flour, gluten-free items, pasta
-
Canned Tomatoes: diced, paste, stewed, or sauce
-
Baby Items: formula, wipes, diapers
-
Household Items: dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, pain relievers, vitamins
-
Toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, shaving cream
-
Menstrual Products: tampons, pads
2. Contribute Unrestricted Funds
Direct donations of unrestricted funds are the most flexible way to help. When funds are restricted (e.g., “food only”), organizations can’t always buy other critical items like diapers or hygiene supplies. Unrestricted gifts let them respond to immediate needs. Every contribution, in any amount, helps to support families where it is needed most. Within our walls, we have the Pastor's Discretionary fund to help fill gaps.
3. Volunteer Directly
Sign up to volunteer with organizations directly so they can coordinate people and resources according to real-time community needs.
